Well over a decade ago, the collapse of the Soviet Union plunged Russia into a social and economic crisis. While conditions slowly improve, inflation and unemployment keep a large percentage of the general population in very low income to poverty status. As the Russian people and government continue to struggle to embody their version of a democratic society and free enterprise, many social services lag, including those for children without parental care.

Each year many thousands of children are abandoned into orphanages, shelters and hospitals. These facilities are the only refuge for children without parental care in this country and the governments best efforts with limited financial resources are nowhere near adequate for the proper care of the orphan children. Simply put, the Russian people love their children very much and are doing their best, but at this point in time, it is not enough and they need our help to keep their children, the future of their country, healthy, educated and hopeful of a future.
