SPECIAL NEEDS AND PROJECTS
Each year, and often each month we receive special requests from some of the homes that we support. Below are some of the current needs for those homes as well as some of our ongoing program needs.
-
MEDICAL FUND
This year we need to raise $10,000 for our 2024 Medical Fund.
Each year we are faced with the challenge of meeting the financial needs of the children and care takers medical needs. These needs are typically unforeseen and are outside of the orphan care programs normal monthly budget
$5,500 of this fund will provide for the monthly support to the Tonita Medical Clinic in Liberia which provides medical services to the children at Safe Home Children’s Village as well as the surrounding community, including; vaccination drives, medicines for minor ailments, treatment for minor cuts and fractures, prenatal and infant delivery care and much more. $4,500 of the fund will provide for vaccination drives, vision and dental needs, and other health issues as they arise like hospital stays and specialized care needs at our many orphan care homes and programs.
-
TRANSPORTATION FUND
Our goal is $35,000 to purchase a safe and mechanically sound passenger vehicle.
Our orphan and widow program, in partnership with Acts of Charity, Kenya is in desperate need of a small van to more effectively support the children’s needs. From providing safe travel to school, church and clinics, the van will also be a huge relief in delivery of food and goods to the children and widow homes and will save program costs for delivery fees so that those funds can be used for more pressing needs. Currently, the director purchases the monthly food and provisions for our sponsored families and then delivers by motorcycle himself as well as pays other boda (motorcycle) drivers to deliver goods as well. This is very challenging as it is many trips and difficult during rainy weather.
-
HIGHER EDUCATION FUND
Our Goal is to raise $50,000 for the 2024 school year.
The key to any child’s success in their chances of breaking out of the cycle of poverty is their higher education. We are committed to supporting each youth as they graduate High School and choose to go on to trade school, vocational school or university degree. We currently have 15 students that we are committed to funding for this academic year so far, as well as, grant funds committed to for new students at the Dave Board Memorial Vocational Center.
